"Chief Round Oak"

It was a time of depression and the family raised Great Danes to supplement their income. Kennels were constructed out back for more than 30 dogs. Bill was eleven when they started coming to my cabin for the summer. He remembers loading the dogs 4 or 5 at a time into the back seat of the family car to bring them to the cooler mountains.
Every day Bill would bring in a load of wood so I could warm my burners and oven. I don't remember ever burning coal. I guess trees were a less expensive fuel back in those days.
